Analytics

Privacy-conscious, aggregated click metrics and visitor telemetry.

Analytics

GO Shortener provides comprehensive, aggregated click analytics for every link owned by a registered user, designed from the ground up with a strict privacy-first architecture.

The Privacy-First Guarantee

Unlike many traditional tracking services that build invasive profiles or store visitor IP addresses, GO operates under strict privacy principles:

Zero Raw IP Storage: Visitor IP addresses are immediately hashed using SHA-256 with an identity salt before click records or abuse counters are processed. The plain IP address is never stored in the database or written to disk logs.

Privacy Protections:

  • No Third-Party Trackers: Telemetry is processed entirely within your self-hosted Go binary; no third-party marketing tags, cookies, or external beacon scripts are used.
  • Aggregated Dimensions: Data is grouped into broad categories (e.g., Browser family, Device category) rather than identifiable digital fingerprints.
  • GDPR & CCPA Friendly: Because raw personal identifiers are not stored, compliance overhead is minimized.

Available Metrics & Visualizations

When you click Analytics on any link in your dashboard, GO displays:

1. Volume & Trendlines

  • Total Lifetime Clicks: The aggregate number of successful HTTP 302 redirects.
  • Temporal Trends: Hourly clicks today, daily volume over the past 7 days, and monthly volume over the past 30 days.

2. Device Breakdown

Classifies incoming HTTP User-Agent headers into clean categories:

  • Desktop (Windows, macOS, Linux)
  • Mobile (iOS, Android smartphones)
  • Tablet (iPads, Android tablets)

3. Browser Distribution

Identifies major browser engines:

  • Google Chrome & Chromium variants
  • Apple Safari
  • Mozilla Firefox
  • Microsoft Edge
  • Other / Headless clients

4. Operating System Distribution

Groups visitor platforms:

  • Windows
  • macOS
  • Linux
  • Android
  • iOS

5. Top Referring Domains

Parses the incoming Referer HTTP header to display the top websites and platforms directing traffic to your shortened link (e.g., twitter.com, reddit.com, news.ycombinator.com, or direct visits).
